Private Wilfred LINEKER

The only "fitting" record discovered for W. LINACRE is for the similar name of LINEKER.
Wilfred LINEKER was born in Belper registration district Q2 of 1921 (mother's maiden name was PROCTER).
John G LINEKER married Mabel PROCTER in Q3 of 1919, Belper registration district.
They had the following children: Ernest (1920), Wilfred (1921), Andrew (1925) and Margaret (1928)
The Crich area was recorded within the Belper Registration district .

In the Army casualty records there is a Private William LINACRE, 241787, 2/5th Kings Own Light Infantry who died on 03 May 1917.
The name matches but not the rank. No supplementary information on the record to assist identification.

There is a casualty record for Trooper Wilfred LINEKER, 2622331, Grenadier Guards who died on 27 September 1944 aged 23.
Both the rank and the age tally with the Wifred LINEKER born in the Crich district.

It is not unreasonable to asume that the W.LINACRE on the memorial and Wilfred LINEKER are one and the same.
