CRICH (Crice), a market-town, lies about 5 m. eastwardly from Wirksworth, and about 4 m. from Alfreton, which is the post town, and 12 m. from Derby. The parish is chiefly in the hundred of Morleston and Litchurch, but extends partly into Scarsdale and Wirksworth hundreds. The parish of Crich includes the townships of Crich, Wessington and Tansley.

The census for the years1801, 1811, 1821 and 1831 was to gather statistical information. Detailed family data was not required.

However, in gathering the required information some census enumerators took detailed notes of the families in their area. Few of these detailed notes remain. Luckily, the family information for Crich for the census of 1811 and 1821 still remain largely intact.
