Alderwasley lies in the parish of Wirksworth, however many of its inhabitants have close links with Crich Parish, especially those living just across the River Derwent in Whatstandwell and Crich Carr. Alderwasley Hall, once home to the Hurt family, dominates the view across the valley from Crich Carr.
